Is This Really Normal?

Self doubt (and its twin, shame)

It comes up constantly with clients though few will raise how it feels.

They’re passionate souls who want to make a difference and know they’re good at what they do, but OMG when it comes to writing about it, talking about it or (even worse) selling it, all kinds of Inner Gremlins tumble out of the woodwork to stop them, especially if they’re ready to take their business to the next level.

You probably know what I mean?

Those Little Voices in your head that say:

self doubt

  • Who do you think you are?
  • You’re such a fraud
  • You’re not good enough
  • You’re not ready yet
  • No-one will pay you for this
  • Who will listen to you?
  • Nobody wants this
  • They can’t afford it
  • This is never going to work
  • And … you can add to the list 🙂

It comes in many different guises and in my work with clients I’ve noticed there’s a whole cluster of subtly different versions around one specific theme …

I don’t mean work as in sessions with clients because I know you absolutely LOVE that sort of work, that’s why you started your business in the first place. (more…)

Is That a Proper Job?

Does this sound familiar?

When you grow up you have to get a proper job
Are you making any money (at that strange thing that you do) yet?
People actually pay you for that?
Why don’t you get a proper job and stop worrying about money all the time?
You can’t make a living doing that, it’s not a proper job
When are you going to get a proper job?

I can’t tell you how many times this comes up in sessions with clients, when we’re working to uncover the hidden beliefs that are holding them back and sabotaging their success.
